How do your guests receive the invitation?

Guests automatically receive digital keys.

By default, an invitation is automatically sent to guests 72 hours before the check-in time. The message includes individual invitation codes for all guests and a brief guide on how to use the Smartlock devices. Using the invitation code, guests can add the Smartlock device to the app and access all devices at the booked property.

Airbnb: invitation via the Airbnb messaging system

For Airbnb listings, invitations are automatically sent to guests via the Airbnb messaging system starting from September 2023. Airbnb messages are a simple and efficient way to communicate with your guests.

To ensure a seamless experience in sending invitations, you can customize the settings: just click on the listing in your web account and access the settings; the "Invitation Recipient" option allows you to customize the settings according to individual needs.

You have the following options to choose from:

  • “Me and my guests” (in the Airbnb app, API option): This option is selected as the default setting. Both you as the host and your guests automatically receive a message with the invitation in the Airbnb app.

  • “Only me” (via email): By selecting this option, only you as the host receive the invitation via email. Guests do not receive messages or emails from the app. Note that in this case, you need to manually share the invitation and access codes for the keypad with the guests.

For greater flexibility, you can choose both options. This way, guests receive their invitation and access codes through the Airbnb messaging system, and you also receive an email with the same information as a backup.
